Join us for a half-day masterclass with Mike Babbitt, for an in-depth look at loudness and audio metering for broadcast. He will also where he shares his expertise on the following:
 
The 54th Annual Grammy Awards
An overview of how a talented team of broadcast and music industry professionals produced premium multichannel audio for the world’s most demanding and high-profile music event for television.
While the Grammy Awards is a multi-million dollar production, you will learn:
·         How multichannel audio capture techniques can evolve with your workflow
·         How the same techniques used at the Grammys can be scaled and used for local or national productions
·         How multichannel audio production can start small and simple and grow to be more complex and detailed as users gain experience
 
Controlling and Measuring Loudness for Digital Television Broadcast
In broadcast television, loudness variations in programming have become a serious issue.  With the development of ITU-R BS.1770-2, ATSC A-85 and EBU R 128, a framework has been developed that provides an opportunity to create a common loudness standard, and national governments are beginning to draft legislation to mandate loudness standards.
In this presentation, you will learn:
·         What are ITU-R BS.1770 and EBU R 128
·         What are the potential impacts of these standards to your programming
·         How to avoid governmental action to address loudness in television
·         How to address loudness problems in pass-through, live, VOD, file-based and other common broadcast workflows

Trainer's Profile:



As the Senior Professional Support Manager at Dolby Laboratories, Mike Babbitt works with operators, networks and local stations to deploy, implement and understand the use of Dolby technologies based upon their specific infrastructure and transmission requirements, as well as helping post production professionals understand and navigate network delivery requirements for broadcast content and implement Dolby technologies for both standard and high definition DVD media. Mike has assisted in the multichannel broadcast of many high-profile live events like the Grammy Awards, Major League Baseball games and NFL broadcasts, and has been recognized for this service several times by the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences, as well as sharing Emmy Awards for the development of Dolby E and the DP600 Program Optimizer. Mike also travels the world speaking on issues like loudness control, audio metadata and Dolby technologies, and has been in the audio industry for nearly 30 years and with Dolby Laboratories for 14.
